REVIEWS and Q&A
I initially bought these to use in snow. When they arrived, I realized just how small they are. They are adequate length, but they're nowhere near the width necessary for snow. In powder they'd be beyond useless. Since I already had them, I tested them in the normal rocky/sandy Colorado soil, which is absolutely brutal on tent stakes. I normally use the MSR groundhog stakes, but the Ascent stakes work much better. They go into the ground easier, hold just as well, and come out easier. They're even a bit lighter and overall smaller. The Ascent stakes have become my standard tent stakes for all conditions except snow, and I've even ordered 4 more to cover guy lines.
I bought a set of six to use with my hammock and tarp setup. Sadly I’ll be looking for something different to use because on my first time using the stake one of the two I was using bent going into the sand-topsoil mix. The weight savings isn’t worth having a stake that does me no good.
This stakes offer good holding power, but the skinny neck is a weak link where the stakes bend easily. Similarly, the stakes can bend at any of the numerous cut out points. If you use these a general purpose stake, you'll likely bend/break them before too long. However, if you use them as a stake for softer soils then they are good - but they don't have enough holding power for really soft soils and sands, so the actual niche for these stakes is more narrow than I'd hoped. If they beefed up the neck these would be a better all purpose stake. As is, I use the ti skewers most of the time and just pull these out for soft soils - or the few I have left anyways after most of them have broken.
I've used these in the snow during a winter overnight and I've used these in the summer in dirt. Very light and widely useful for many camping scenarios. Haven't run into any problems yet at all. Great tent stakes.
Haven't had a chance to use them yet, but they appear to be as advertised, and I expect no issues with them
I choose and use The Vargo Titanium Ascent Tent Stake by snow camping with my small tent. That's very good. Reflective cord attached is also beautiful in white snow!
This tent stake may bend for the peg body's hole of weight saving. so putting it besides snow or sandy soil, choice of a different stake is recommended.
Titanium sheppard hook tent stakes are incredibly light and easy to work past the rocks in the soil. Highly recommend these over the aluminum ones by other manufacturers.
Finally got to rest these out with my new hammock tarp setup and I couldn't be happier. Super light and hold in the ground better than most. Traded my buddy a few of them for some of your Shepards hooks and those work great as well.
Light and functional. Excellent choice for ultralight backpacking/hiking.
Awesome stakes. Light, strong, easy to remove from ground with red pulls.
