REVIEWS and Q&A
I'm a stove geek (I like to run with gear head, lol) I have numerous alcohol stoves, many run as backup to debris stoves like firebox, Kelly kettle, Bush Buddy(and the famous solo stove totally ripped off from them). Even Cooler than having an incredibly lightweight alcohol backup to stoves that use free readily available fuel you don't have to buy, store, or carry is having that backup offer double duty as a hexamine backup stove!
I'd read old reviews about the lack of efficiency, bloom time, and excessive amount of alcohol required for operation, and even saw a video from "THE stove guy" who said it fell flat and was a disappointment to him.
Maybe prior version(s) were lacking, but if so they figured it out!
Thank you for another quality product Vargo :)

Do a lot of hiking, camping; no climbing. For 40 yrs, used "traditional" cooker but did not like the weight of the fuel and the cooker. really wanted to try as light as possible. Took a while for clumsy me to be comfortable with this tiny thing.as it's little "tippy". I would NOT recommend having a child or one really worried about any cooking use this item. Do yourself a BIG favor, practice! I bought a small "pinch" mitt for pot handles and ALWAYS use wooden strike matches, carefully extinguishing. I use a light pie pan and a round wire grate for safety. Highly recommend a wind shield too. also carefully purchase the right fuel! This is a really nice item and have practiced using it a lot. Easily extinguished. Also fuel easily and cheaply found. If you practice first and oversee cooking, a really nice piece of kit. Who cares about how much time for the bloom an the cook,Really?
This version is a great update to the previous stove! Easy to fill and long burn life
The Triad stove kicks butt. The time from ignition to boil 1 liter of water is 11 minutes. Are canister stoves faster sure but I’m enjoying my camp time. This stove is as simple as it gets, needs a wind screen but that’s easy too. Buy this stove and enjoy simplicity at its finest.
Light weight and easy to use. It boils water very quickly and stores easily
I backpacked most of 2019 across Tasmania, Bali, India, and multiple countries in Europe. I cannot tell you how many meals this stove cooked—it’s ridiculous. It weighs nothing. And yes, you want a primer plate. I use the bottom of a beer can cut out with a dremel—it is cut to the shape of the dip in the top of the stove so it fits perfectly in the top and the three legs fold down to keep it secure. Denatured alcohol is the best fuel, and the most difficult thing about this stove is finding out what denatured alcohol is called in different countries and where it is sold. Seriously, buy this thing. It just works. And with a primer plate that has 9-15 drops of alcohol in it (carry a small dropper with alcohol in your kit for this purpose), it blooms in about 10 seconds. Seriously. I cooked hundreds of meals on this thing. It made travel way cheaper because I could cook my food wherever I went. Just buy it already.
Performs beyond expectations.
It's really well made for the weight. But if you follow the instructions expect a 5+ minute *bloom* time -- not boil, BLOOM. Tack another 5-7minutes onto that for boil. In contrast, a beercan stove will bloom in 30-45 seconds and weighs half as much including windscreen and pot stand. Durability for something I'm not going to stomp on anyway isn't worth the massive performance loss IMO.
I get it, it's an ALCOHOL STOVE but compared to the other (heavier) options out there it's slow - just not as slow as a wood stove. In absolutely *PERFECT* conditions (using Vargo's AL windscreen, "primed" with a bottle cap of alcohol under the stove, warm temp, low altitude, best fuel) boiling times were in excess of 7-1/2 minutes to boil water for my meals. Much improved over the earlier model with the smaller center hole though. If weight is the issue and you don't end your hiking day like a ravenous wolf, this may be your stove. Looking for a 3 minute boil? Totally unreasonable expectations. Would I buy again? You betcha.
This is my first alcohol stove and I was hesitant but I ended up being very impressed. I was able to boil water relatively quickly and of course the portability was on point! It's a great looking piece of kit as well!
Additional Info
The Vargo original that started it all has gotten a major upgrade since its inception in 2003. Now with a wider filling hole for faster fueling and multi-fuel capability for burning fuel tabs and gels, the Triad continues to stand apart as one of the best. When flipped over, the updated Triad has an indented well on the bottom of the stove for burning fuel tabs or fuel gels for all season, all terrain fueling options (also great for thru-hikes or long-distance hikes when resupply fuel options are inconsistent or unknown!). The folding arms and legs of the stove double as pot supports and anchors depending upon which side of the stove is being used and makes it incredibly compact for storage. Altogether these changes greatly improve the Triad's ease of use and its versatility while still incorporating the weight and features that users have grown to love about the Triad.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
From Brian Vargo - The original Triad stove was the start of Vargo Outdoors. In 2002, all alcohol stoves required a separate pot stand in order to use them. Also, there were no stoves made from titanium, which I considered to be lighter, more durable, and of higher quality than anything available at the time.
My idea was to integrate a leg system into an alcohol stove in a simple design that
would be easier to use and pack compactly as all one unit.
If you’re looking for the fastest boil time then an isobutane canister stove is going to be the stove for you, however, fast is not always the primary concern, especially when relaxing outdoors. There is always the question of what to do with the canister as well after it’s empty. For those that are concerned about their ecological impact canister stoves might not be for you..
Alcohol stoves on the other hand, have been around for a long time and their simplicity and maintenance free features make them a viable choice. Alcohol stoves are generally lighter than canister stoves and Vargo stoves are made from durable lightweight titanium. Alcohol is easier to find or purchase when traveling and has less of an impact on the environment.
We recommend using denatured alcohol. Pure ethanol is also a great option but it is more expensive and harder to purchase (especially if you are under the legal drinking age). Methanol is also an option but it burns slightly less hot than denatured. In a pinch, isopropyl will work but it will leave a dirty residue on the bottom of your pot and does not burn as hot as other options.
Pure ethanol is the cleanest alcohol to use but it is expensive and not available to those under the legal drinking age. We recommend denatured alcohol.
